It's a reaction to the reaction to the event.

(45,530 posts)When is Obama going to take away your guns? Next year? Next month? Better buy some more guns today just in case he does it tonight while you sleep? People have been buying lots of guns for the last 8 years. Nobody has stopped these people yet.

(989 posts)They could never use all the guns they own for any kind of attack. Most can't even get the one they carry out of their holster in time to save their own lives.

(88 posts)I'm assuming you have personal knowledge of how many guns "they" have?
Most can't even get the one they carry out of their holster in time to save their own lives.
Were I you, I would not be associating with anyone that incompetent...I mean, you must know them, else you wouldn't post such an assumption, without a personal awareness of it, right?
Or perhaps you are a trainer of the users of firearms, and have first hand knowledge of the alleged incompetence of those that have and/or legally carry a gun?
I am continually amazed at the diversity of the folks that frequent this forum.
Most are knowledgeable.
Some are not.

it's long been said that the GOP has only run on fantasies ABOUT the 50s, not anything from the 50s--just cowboy movies and "Father Knows Best" (since "Leave it to Beaver" was way too New Deal Dem for them)

(34,183 posts)Even if you don't think there will actually be any bans on guns, the surge in buying can dry up supply for up to two years which drives up prices for the remaining inventory.
Take me for example. I had been thinking about picking up an AR style lower that was designed to take Glock factory magazines. A pistol-carbine set that takes the same magazines has its advantages. Plus 9mm ammo is now about as cheap as it will be for the foreseeable future. I decided to pick up two complete lowers because I realized there was a good chance they would be sold out and might not come back at a decent price for a while.
They are in the mail to my local FFL now.

(688 posts)Since 1986, concealed carry has been liberalized in state after state. And in that time, it hasn't gotten more restrictive in a single state. 20% of the country now has unrestricted concealed carry.

Confiscation? No way. No how. I will grant that laws prohibiting the sale and manufacture of some items such as "assault" weapons and "high capacity" magazines might pass at some point in the future (certainly not now), but they would be grandfathered.

(7,921 posts)They have a stake in the enlarged magazines and the rapid fire weapons which consume more rounds.
Last year they fooled my 29 year old nephew into buying a stunning amount of ammunition on the false premise it was all about to be seized by DOJ, ATFE, FBI and Obama. All he does with it is hunt and plink (target shooting), but he works construction alongside guys who are SURE that the next time will be point when confiscation begins.
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)Was that when they proposed rule changes to actually ban a type of 5.56 round. They were going to until it slipped out and the backlash was swift and it was proven it di not even meet their definition of armor piercing. Since ammo does not go bad and he apparently bought in bulk, he saved money.

(7,921 posts)Nephew is a tool hound and hunts with an antique .308. I'm not sure what he plinks with. The idea he owned that much ammunition was a bit overwhelming as otherwise he is not into the Guns R Us faith.
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)Easy to go through 50-100 rounds plinking. It was not a sneeze, it was a rule change to ban a type of ammunition that is used by many shooters as being plentiful and relatively cheap.
