Caddo Commissioners discuss World War II monument (LA)

Caddo Parish Commissioners met Monday to discuss a World War II monument that may eventually replace the Confederate monument in downtown Shreveport.

The USS Golet Submarine was funded by citizens of Caddo Parish in 1943. The Veterans Affairs/Services Committee got the monument from Mississippi and plans to expand it to honor lost crew members.

The committee wants to place the monument somewhere in Caddo Parish because of its connection to the area. Committee chair, Ken Epperson says a couple of architectural firms have agreed to do the work pro bono so they are moving forward.

Epperson wants the monument to replace the Confederate monument outside of the Caddo Parish courthouse ...
