https://www.buzzfeed.com/emaoconnor/meet-the-two-swedish-men-who-caught-brock-turner?utm_term=.sb6yo28Az#.ebMX0RDvbCarl-Fredrik Arndt and Peter Jonsson, the two Swedish Ph.D. students who found Brock Turner sexually assaulting an unconscious woman behind a dumpster at Stanford, said they immediately knew something was wrong.
Nearly a year and a half ago Arndt and Jonsson were biking to a party on Stanfords campus when they saw Turner, 20, on top of his victim behind a dumpster. They managed to tackle Turner as he ran away and they called the police.
The two men were key witnesses in the case against Turner, who was eventually found guilty of three counts of sexual assault and was sentenced by Judge Aaron Persky to three months of a six-month sentence in county jail with probation. He said a longer sentence in prison would have a severe impact on the Stanford athlete.

Thank you to the two men who saved me, who I have yet to meet, the victim wrote. I sleep with two bicycles that I drew taped above my bed to remind myself there are heroes in this story. That we are looking out for one another. To have known all of these people, to have felt their protection and love, is something I will never forget.
Arndt was a teaching assistant at Stanford in math and engineering while getting his degree. He spent time at J.P. Morgan as research associate. Jonsson received his Master of Science degree in management science and engineering from Stanford in May. Previously he attended Uppsala University in Sweden for economics.

This case seems open and shut. That judge should be drummed out of office.

Here's an idea, rapist asshole, don't tell students not to drink (which is legal), tell them not to rape!

(907 posts)Please continue to speak out about the immigration mess. Don't let anyone discourage you.
I'm distressed to see what is now happening to Sweden, the wonderful country that gave us the great hero Raoul Wallenberg.
As for the rapist, his father, and the conscienceless judge, they're scum -- disgraces to humanity.

(2,016 posts)A shame. Sweden used to be a very peaceful country.

(27,630 posts)A co-worker of mine is a Christian immigrant (10 years ago) from Lebanon, and she's worried about the huge influx of Muslims.
There already have been protests in the streets, in Sweden, between different immigrant ethnic populations from the middle east and north Africa.
The naiveté of the swedes, thinking that immigrants from wildly different cultures and with languages completely unrelated to swedish would be motivated to assimilate quickly and easily, because they just LOVE the swedish way of life! And will learn the swedish language quickly! (fat chance)
In many cases immigrants definitely add to the nation in a positive way, but unfortunately sweden's immigration policies are stupid in so many ways. The voters have had it, and are taking a sharp and sudden turn to RW nationalists, like much of the rest of europe.
Mostly, I want to kick this thread because of the gross, spoiled, entitled, rapist, Brock Turner who is too sad and victimized to eat his rib-eye steaks, after being caught and convicted of rape.

three months of the six months ordered?
So the sentence is not even half a year?
This is the only place I've read that Judge Persky sentenced him to 3 months of the 6 month sentence. No other outlet has these numbers, that I'm aware of.

Because "a longer sentence would have a 'severe impact' on Turner the rapist?
What about the "severe impact" the crime had on the victim?
Kudos to Arndt and Jonsson for their intervention...I wish them all the best!
