women are leaving in droves because of the attacks on reproductive health. Seems to be the legislators leading on the abortion but the actual church elders: crickets.

(111,327 posts)The only way they can get woman hating judges onto the USSC bench is with a Republican in office.
There is no way they can claim Trump as the next coming of Jebus. They can't even claim him as a Christian--they tried but it didn't work, spectacularly so. They're still out there lobbying at the state level and a lot of their bullshit is getting passed in red states.
Just don't expect many of them to jump on the Trump bandwagon. They'll line up to vote for him, though, because god.

(3,660 posts)But don't let the faithapologists of DU fool you into thinking the religious voting bloc is a reasonable left-right split. The only denominations not bleeding members like a stuck pig are the fundagelicals. The religious Christian bloc votes right wing by a massive margin and not only on theocracy grounds but because of parochialism, small mindedness and authoritarianism. They know Trump isn't of them but they also know his base expect him to pretend to be, because even if Bubba the Biker couldn't tell you the difference between Abishag and Absalom and hasn't seen the inside of a church since Jack Van Impe had dark hair, he thinks America = Right = Christian and expects his Fuhrer to spout Gott Mit Uns with the best of them.
In fact the most astute of the theocrazies will, probably rightly if a Trump miracle occurs and he wins, expect more from him than from Bush et al. They had the cover of being long-term WASP advocates for all that is pure and decent and religious, however falsely. They could stand on claims of godliness and propriety without decades of foul-mouthed narcissistic adultery and hedonism in the public eye to cover and atone for to assuage their followers' doubts about the leader's probity. Trump has to prove he's a good Christian in a way Bush and Cruz et al never had to because they wore the mantle consistently. He's likely to prove that, given the chance, by not just paying lip service to the RR folks but by giving them some of what they want - a homophobic, misognyistic, insular racist society like they had in the good old days when everybody went to church.

(100,099 posts)The Rick Wiles, John Hagees, Franklin Grahams, and Alex Joneses of the party are now the most vocal and they've managed to successfully drown out any rational voices the party once had. And they're all stumping for Trumpenfuror. And it's making people realize how dangerous and scary the conspiracy theorists can be.
