(64 posts)completely off the rails. I thought that maybe when he became the actual nominee he might tone things down a bit, but the guy is still calling people names like a five year old in a school yard.
It's kind of surreal this is actually happening.

(4,033 posts)I think the idea of actually becoming President scares the daylights out of tRump. I don't think he can admit that even to himself. So, instead, he will keep getting more and more outrageous and insane until he crashes and burns. Then he can sit back and blame somebody else and keep claiming he 'would have made America great again'.

(22,040 posts)In the previous post, reign88 suggested that Donald Trump would moderate his behavior once he'd secured the Republican presidential nomination. And Stonepounder posits that Mr. Trump is terrified that he might actually get elected and that he has a long game plan to subvert his own campaign. As a New Yorker for 40 years, I've watched Donald Trump live his disgusting life publicly and there isn't one thing he has done since announcing his candidacy that surprised me.
It would, however, surprise me greatly if Mr. Trump has the self-awareness that both of you are suggesting. He's always aiming for a profit or the adulation of the moment, not the extended perspective. Just look at how he has vacillated in his expressions on serious issues:

As his campaign has progressed this past year, we've seen repeatedly how he pivots from moment to moment without any core values. He really doesn't express any substantive policies and the illegal or impracticable ideas that he does offer are never detailed. Afterwards, he either walks back the idea or states that it was "just a suggestion."
Although it's not original, Donald Trump is the Kim Kardashian of American politics. He has nothing substantial to offer. He's famous for being famous. He perfectly exhibits the characteristics of the type of Republican that the GOP has been fostering for decades. If Mr. Trump wins, it'll be a disaster but he'll bluster his way forward and I expect that his staff and Congress will somehow keep the ship of state afloat. If he loses, he'll chalk it up to just another promotion of his brand and plow forward with a new scam.
In the end, the only thing Mr. Trump has ever been interested in is The Donald.

(64 posts)I've known folks like this, and the success of people like Trump will only reinforce that living this way is a valid option.
In the long haul, I think it's horrible, but what can you do. Sometimes I feel like it's too little too late and unwinding this whole thing.
I was really pulling for Bernie, but now it looks like we're going to be stuck watching this rerun:

There has been nothing better than Don Martin's Fester Bestertester and Karbunkle. And, of course, National Gorilla-Suit Day.
