Ex-Miss Turkey found guilty of insulting Recep Tayyip Erdoğan

A court has convicted a former Miss Turkey of insulting the president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, through social media postings and handed her a 14-month suspended sentence.

The court on Tuesday found 27-year-old Merve Büyüksaraç guilty of insulting a public official. She would have to serve the sentence if she reoffends.

Büyüksaraç, who was crowned Miss Turkey in 2006, was briefly detained for sharing a satirical poem on her Instagram account in 2014. Prosecutors deemed it to be insulting to Erdoğan, who was prime minister at the time.

Since becoming president in 2014, Erdoğan has filed close to 2,000 defamation cases under a previously seldom-used law that prohibits insulting the president.

Maybe we should lock Trump and Erdogan in a room together?

Erdogan is a religious fanatic who wants to turn Turkey into regional super-power. "Make Turkey great again."

Both hate the press.

And both have a habit for shady dealings: Erdogans son is under suspicion to smuggle oil for ISIS but the turkish police is doing jack-shit because he's the son of the President.

And both are a fan of grandiose gestures and empty words:
The bombing-attack in the syrian town Suruc killed hundreds of turkish citizens (who happened to be critical of Erdogan's policy). Turkey jumped to conclusions and announced that ISIS did that bombing, but Turkey has to this day neither arrested nor interrogated anybody about this bombing. (And ISIS never claimed responsibility for the bombing...)
