On the night Trump all but clinched the Republican nomination, he spoke magnanimously of the Texas senator.
You know, we started off with that 17 number and just so you understand Ted Cruz, I dont know if he likes me or if he doesnt like me, but he is one hell of a competitor, Trump said in his victory speech from Trump Tower after winning Indianas Republican primary on May 3, forcing Cruz to withdraw from the race. He is a tough, smart guy and he has got an amazing future, he added.
But in private, Trump expressed a different view of Cruzs future, according to a New York Times Magazine profile of Trump and his inner circle. A day before his impressive victory in Indiana, Trump was on his plane watching Fox News pundits discuss Cruzs political future on television.
Standing in front of the oversize screen, Trump scoffed: I dont think he has much of a future,' the Times reported. Trumps about face on Cruzs political future 24-hours later may have been an attempt by the then presumptive GOP nominee to unite the party by coaxing Cruz, whose wife and father Trump harshly criticized during the campaign, into putting the brutal primary behind him and endorsing Trump. If so, Trumps efforts to get Cruz to jump aboard the Trump Train have not been a tremendous success as of yet.

OP
Trump's a riot. When he himself goes down it should provide much entertainment. nt

(1,681 posts)3. I agree. I expect him to deploy a total scorched earth policy as he goes down in flames.
The wreckage from the flaming disaster will be epic in it's scope. Former friends, enemies real & imagined will bear the claw-marks of the poo that he'll fling on the way out the door.
Careers, reputations will be destroyed or damaged. Decades long vendettas will be passed down from one generation to the next.

Cruz stood in front of the TX GOP convention this past Sunday and tried to sell them on supporting Trump.
Admittedly, he didn't use Trump's name more than once or twice (if at all) in a 30 minute speech.
LOL, I was photographing the entire convention, and it was amazing to hear speaker after speaker admonishing the party to come together and support the nominee, while refusing to use the nominee's name!
