I have pet mallards and the trick is walking slowly behind them with your arms outstretched to guide them and discourage them from flying off.

Some of my fondest childhood memories are of the trips to the swan boats and my mom reading me, and then my children, Make Way for Ducklings.

Everybody leaves them alone. They seem to be doing fine.

I'm on a two lane road. and a duck and her babies are crossing the road... SLOWLY. I sit there for a few minutes and so does traffic in the other direction. by now cars are stacked up.

Finally they all clear off the road and we start to go, and the SECOND I start to accelerate, the all get spooked and fly right back across the road to where they had come from *facepalm*

All traffic on a major road in my small city came to a stop as a goose and a stream of goslings crossed the street. It was awesome.
