A North Carolina school system has adopted a policy allowing high school students to carry pepper spray this fall, a policy one board member said may be useful for students who encounter transgender classmates in the bathroom.
The Salisbury Post reports (http://bit.ly/1TzmUGY) the policy was adopted by the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education during a work session on Monday.
Board member Chuck Hughes said using the sprays was purely defensive, and he referenced the North Carolina law that limits LGBT rights, saying such sprays could help female students if they go to the bathroom and don't know who's coming in after them.

(2,061 posts)An excellent idea.
We know we don't want someone who has such 'issues' sharing their bathroom of the gender they identify with inside.
Meanwhile the male wrestling team who just finished their communal shower will ensure that none of their friends or sisters (whose fathers insist that she is the best kisser in the county) are exposed to any blatant homosexual overtones.

(15,805 posts)The school board is acting irresponsible by advocating the use of pepper spray and opening up their town to multiple charges criminal or civil liability. The attacker would be charged with assault and battery for spraying an innocent victim in the face because that is just as much a crime as punching them in the face. In a small enclosed area that spray affects everyone in the room, especially kids with asthma or respiratory problems.
