Trump Will Hide His Views On Minorities Better Now “If people don’t think you like them,

“If people don’t think you like them, they’re not going to vote for you.”

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus said Friday that presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump understands the need to change how he speaks about marginalized groups.

Trump has labeled Mexicans “rapists” and “killers,” and has proposed a blanket ban on Muslims entering the United States. He also plans to round up and deport the 11 million undocumented residents living in the United States.

“If people don’t think you like them, they’re not going to vote for you,” Priebus said at a breakfast hosted by Politico.

“Do Hispanics think Donald Trump likes them?” asked moderator Mike Allen.

“I think there is work to do,” Priebus replied. “There’s work on tone to do.”

Priebus said he has spoken to Trump about his incendiary language, and that the candidate “understands it. He gets it. I think you’re going to see the change in tone.”

Priebus’ prediction came one day after Trump tweeted out a bizarre Cinco de Mayo greeting that some people viewed as offensive.

Sure, Reince. Maybe calling Mexicans "thugs" and "molesters" rather than "killers" and "rapists" might be a better "tone". I am sure that will win Donald many Hispanic votes.

And Donald has to worry that his base will see any change in "tone" - no more talk of a yuuuuuge wall and tariffs or banning Muslims (including the new mayor of London?) from entering the US - as a sign that he is another politician tacking to the center for the general election.

Of course, he can 'wink' at them to give them the message that he really does not mean any of this 'reasonable sounding' stuff that he is offering up to liberals and independents. "I am still one of you but I have to fool enough Democrats and independents in order to get elected so that I can do all the things I promised during the primary."

Even Clinton is not going to shift significantly. The primary->general shift, which does exist, is minute, at best. And it usually is more of a pandering shift than it is anything else. Trump can't pull it off.
