RT America and Young Turks Blocked from Hulu
As a senior with limited funds, I stopped cable and learned to rely on alternate forms of information and entertainment. I opted, among other things, to subscribe to Hulu. It not only streams many MSM shows the day after broadcast, it has also streamed many alternate, and progressive shows such as The Big Picture, Redacted Tonight, and The Young Turks. All of that came to an end late March. I contacted Hulu and was told that it was official, but with no explanation.
ON EDIT: I somehow missed the paragraph regarding the speculation that Hillary was behind the blackout... I certainly have no reason to believe that is so and don't endorse it. I posted it because I thought it was interesting that Hulu had stopped broadcasting TYT... No conspiracy theory from me.

(17,301 posts)It's a valid concern since Hulu is owned by Disney, ABC, Walt Disney, Fox and Comcast. It's a corporate monster owned by monopolies. If they are successful at censoring the shows you seem to dislike, they will then move on to censoring the shows you Do like.
The PTB don't give a crap. As long as you don't know enough to change their control. Luckily for you, you like what TPTB are doing...for now.

(410 posts)There is no reason to trust any of the corporate media.
This country is in big trouble, folks.

We watch TYT on YouTube and Thom Hartmann on thomhartmann.com.

(4,482 posts)I've always used the Internet.
There are also many channels on Newscaster on Roku, but it also does not have TYT or Thom Hartmann.
get the Roku 1 / refurbished or the stick for a low cost solution.
they had apps on there, including democracy now which streams video live and for the past two weeks of stephanie miller, thom hartmann and I think TyT has their own roku app.
it's all free after you buy the roku and I've seen them at the goodwill on a very regular basis.
cutting the cable is the hardest step, after that it's pretty easy to find local news as well as most of what you like to watch.
im fortunate to live in an area with a TON of digital over-the-air stations, so general entertainment is never a real problem for me anyway.
as far as conspiracy goes... it's not impossible

(37,748 posts)I too implied Clinton was to blame when Gilligan's Island and Pettycoat Junction were cancelled. Granted, I had absolutely no evidence either, but it certainly allowed me to feel warm inside.

(11,012 posts)Hulu had stopped streaming The Young Turks.
That was apparently the poster's conclusion, not mine.

(45,319 posts)accurate to say they are blocking RT when they just don't want to buy RT. I do not blame them. I will now subscribe to Hulu whereas I previously boycotted them because they were paying fees to anti gay RT.
Hulu wanted to grow and go mainstream, they can't do that while also being a propaganda outlet for anti gay governments. The creative people who make and own content Hulu needs will NOT be associated with RT type content. They do not have to be.
Hulu has a few new programs I want to see, now I can subscribe and that's great news.

(31,849 posts)HULU, as a business enterprise, has to carry what sells ... and won't chase away other revenue. Apparently, RT, and its products, are not selling at the requisite level.

(2,169 posts)RT (Russia Today!) is sponsored by the Russian Govt (Putin has some influence there). Trump said Putin's praise of him was a great honor, and that he'd get on very well with him if he were President. Not to mention, if you didn't realize, Trump has somewhat of a close relationship with the MSM. Wouldn't Trump be just as suspect at taking your liberal voices away.

(2,412 posts)As the Progressive Left grows in power, there will be more push back from the media outlets and carriers. We are becoming a threat to the status quo, that's when they begin to do things like this.

Any commercial service like Hulu is in business to make $. If certain shows or networks don't make them $, or lose $, they have every incentive to replace them. The handful of customers they lose will be more than made up for in new customers they acquire by offering programming that has a wider audience base.

(45,527 posts)One of my favorite shows Redacted Tonight from RT America was taken off Hulu too. I contacted Redacted (Lee Camp) through twitter and they told me it had to do with requiring closed captioning for all programs on Hulu and it would take a few months for the programs and RT America to comply.
I thought the same thing you did too because none of them where on but they should all be back on once they get CC.

(5,275 posts)I can watch clips of the Young Turks, RT, Redacted Tonight, all of it, right on one of my TVs through a wifi enabled Blu ray player.
I will still give Hulu a piece of my mind as a subscriber.
