Body of American Missionary found in bushes in Albion Mountain, St Mary, Jamaica

The body of an American missionary was found in bushes in Albion Mountain, St Mary yesterday with its hands bound to the back.

A search is now on for the suspect who is believed to have accompanied him to the area.?

"We can confirm that between 8 a.m. and 12:30pm (yesterday) an American missionary was found dead in bushes in Albion Mountain," a representative of the police's Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) told The Gleaner.

However, the CCU has not yet released the identity of the slain man.

Investigators are still not certain how he died, but it is reported that he had an injury to the mouth and may have been shot.?

Another missionary who was with him is missing according to the news right now on Irie FM. Apparently they were both riding motor bikes. I'm trying to get more info. I suspect they were Mormons although they ride bicycles in Kingston and St Andrew.

Food for the Poor provides the supplies and these missionaries foreign and local do the work.
There is some confusion as to whether the man who was killed is American, Jamaican or both.
Irie FM said American. RJR94.5 said Jamaican. The other man was the head of the group, a Jamaican - he is missing. Does not sound good at all. Have to wonder if robbery of the motor bikes was the motive.

The capacity of those who do evil to identify those who are trying to do good is depressingly accurate.

This is quite rare though. They don't usually attack the 'church folks' building homes for those in need.

I'm not religious in any way, shape, or form (and don't have a lot of patience with it in any guise), but I can still hope this has nothing to do with whatever religion the victim ascribed to. They were just trying to help people in need, probably with a level of trust that made them an easy target.

I'm betting they saw a chance to steal two motor bikes. They are very popular here.

Oh they're not Mormons.

Just an opportunity. Too bad they couldn't just stop with theft. Property can be replaced. Lives - both the victim and the perp(s), once caught - cannot.

Either the person writing that blog knows something no one else does, or he/she is just spreading unfounded gossip.

They were on their way to meeting up with a group to build a house for a family.
The second man's name is Nichols - they are speaking with his American wife on radio now.

Too sad.

The death of United States missionary Randy Hentzel has sent shockwaves throughout the parish of St Mary as local police continue their ongoing probe into the man’s suspected murder.

This comes after reports surfaced on Saturday, April 30, that the body of a male Caucasian was found along a dirt track in Albion Mountain in the northern parish.

Hentzel, 58, was found lying face-down with his hands bound behind him near a motorcycle that is suspected to have belonged to him.

Blood was also seen coming from the man's mouth.

Hentzel, who was reportedly living in Tower Isles, St Mary, was discovered dead by residents sometime between 12 noon and 1:30 pm. The American is originally from Donnellson, Iowa in the US.

He was a part of the outreach missionary group, TEAMS for Medical Missions based in the parish.

Information reaching Loop News on Sunday is that a massive search is now underway for another American missionary, 53-year-old Harold Nichols – as it is believed he and Hentzel were attacked and killed.

A trail of blood led the police to another motorcycle in the area that the police are saying could have belonged to the missing missionary.

That man is suspected to have been also been a member of the TEAMS for Medical Missions group.

While here in Jamaica, Hentzel worked as an Instructor and Bible Teacher at TEAMS for Medical Missions.

Doesn't seem to make sense but we'll eventually find out what happened here.
Hundreds of people in the area joined the search party and take it from me, they are not afraid of jungle justice.

olice confirmed to Loop News moments ago that Nichols was found some distance away in the hills of Albion Mountain, St Mary – his body lying in a pool of water behind bushes, wrapped in barbed wire, and his head bashed in.

Nichols and Hentzel were both American missionaries living in Jamaica, doing outreach works with the TEAMS for Medical Missions.
