Flint officials hopeful Obama's visit could bring water crisis aid to city
FLINT, MI Officials are sharing hopeful thoughts President Obama's planned visit to Flint will bring the spotlight back onto the city's ongoing water crisis.
Obama announced Wednesday, April 27 he would visit Flint in seven days after receiving a letter from 8-year-old Amariyanna Copeny asking the president if he could visit the city going through a water crisis for more than two years now.
Due at a meeting in Lansing Wednesday afternoon to meet with state leaders regarding aid for the city, Flint Mayor Karen Weaver said in a statement that it's "encouraging to know that the President of the United State is very concerned about what happening in Flint and what we're still going through because of this man-made water disaster."
Weaver previously spoke with Obama in January during the U.S. Conference of Mayors after the city, county and state government had declared an emergency in Flint and Genesee County due to lead in the water after the switch to Flint River lead to lead in pipes.
"I'm glad he's taking time out of his busy schedule to come here and talk to residents himself," she said. "I also plan to speak with the President about what's happened here, and what hasn't happened to help us recover from this water crisis."
