“The defendant is a serial child molester”

let this sink in:

“The defendant is a serial child molester,” said Judge Thomas M. Durkin, of Federal District Court, in a tough rebuke of the former speaker before issuing his sentence. He added, “Nothing is more stunning than having ‘serial child molester’ and ‘Speaker of the House’ in the same sentence.”

Pointing out the vulnerability of Mr. Hastert’s young victims, he said they were damaged for years.

“If there’s a public shaming of the defendant because of the conduct he’s engaged in, so be it,” Judge Durkin said.

On the other hand, fear of public shaming is the reason why Hastert DIDN'T tell the FBI that he was doing weird things with his bank withdrawals because he was being blackmailed. And of course the idea of a blackmailable Speaker of the House -- second in line to the president -- is equally stunning.

When you have to choose between bad and worse, always choose bad.

As you can tell I have no sympathy for this particular convict.

did you only give him 15 months? Hell, he'll probably be out in 9. Oh, that's right- he's an old, rich, white guy. I am shocked he is going at all.
