Trump's cries of 'rigged' system shift blame for his losses

https://www.yahoo.com/news/trumps-cries-rigged-system-shifts-blame-losses-065356230--election.html?nhp=1

HARRINGTON, Del. (AP) — Donald Trump keeps hammering away at Republican insiders even as campaign aides are gingerly courting those same officials.

"The system is all rigged," Trump said Friday at a Delaware rally as he looked ahead to the state's primary. "That's why we have to win big. That's why on Tuesday, everyone has to go out and vote. We have to win big because the system is rigged."

It may seem counterproductive, but Trump's foot-stomping has served as a rallying cry to boost turnout and reinforce his appeal to voters who feel disenfranchised. The "rigged" system argument is a convenient scapegoat, shifting the blame for any future potential losses and lost delegates away from a campaign that has been outmaneuvered.

Trump has won more states than his rivals, yet his team has been badly outplayed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in ensuring that supportive delegates make it to the GOP convention in July in Cleveland.

Pennsylvania, one of five states voting Tuesday, has an especially confusing delegate system.

The nomination system is not particularly fair. I suppose it is marginally better than the days when all the real decisions were made in smoke filled rooms.

I don't know what to think about either Trump or Cruz as candidates to run against. I think Kasich might seem more reasonable to many voters and so be hard to beat even though he has never gotten traction in this race.

We had a discussion last night about how messed up the electoral system is in the U.S. It is the most screwed up hodgepodge of secretaries of state, county clerks and local election officials all following different and arcane rules, some made up on the spot.

And, NO, I don't have a solution as states rights seem to be built into the psyches of the American people. But it is ruining our election, education and other functions of good government.
