NBC News Describes Trump As “One Of The More LGBT-Friendly” Republicans, Despite His Anti-LGBT Positions

In a segment discussing North Carolina's discriminatory anti-LGBT "bathroom bill" legislation, NBC's Hallie Jackson claimed that Donald Trump "is considered one of the more LGBT-friendly Republican candidates." Jackson’s misleading description of Trump as LGBT friendly comes as the Republican front-runner attempts to re-brand himself as a more moderate candidate heading into the general election and ignores Trump’s long-standing position as an opponent of marriage equality.

While Jackson described Trump as “one of the more LGBT friendly Republican candidates,” a closer look finds his stance in line with supporters of the law. During an April 21 interview with Fox’s Sean Hannity, Trump said "local communities and states" should be able pass discriminatory legislation barring transgender people from using a bathroom associated with the gender they identify with. Trump’s stance that states should be allowed to pass these discriminatory laws is in line with North Carolina’s passing of the state-sponsored anti-LGBT law:

Jackson's NBC Nightly News report ignores Trump's history of bigoted and extreme positions on LGBT issues, including his support for the anti-LGBT "First Amendment Defense Act," Trump's promise to "strongly consider" appointing Supreme Court justices to overturn its recent ruling in support of marriage equality, and his previous support for Kim Davis, a Kentucky County clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Furthermore, the NBC segment plays into comments made by Trump’s new campaign manager, Paul Manafort. During an April 21 meeting of Republican leaders, Manafort attempted to assure those assembled that Trump’s outrageous rhetoric was the candidate simply “projecting an image” and that “the image is going to change.”

and her boosters insist that NC, with Democrats joining Republicans to pass horrific anti trans and anti gay laws, must not be called conservative. They insist that it is progressive to vote against the rights of others. They claim that calling anti gay bigots 'conservative' is super wrong. Bernie is a bad man because he says those who pass bigoted laws are conservatives.

nor is it what people who live in NC, as I do, are saying. The legislature here has been gerrymandered beyond all recognition. 0, not a single solitary Democratic state Senator, not one, as in the square root of bupkus voted for it. Not one. Not any. None, nihil, zero. Not a God damned one. Not a single solitary Democratic candidate for statewide office here has endorsed this bill. Zero, none, nada, nihil, the square root of negative zero. Hillary won the Democratic primary here. A large majority(26-11) of our Democratic House members also voted against that bill. I would have liked it to be zero. Unlike you, I am actually attempting to do something to make it fewer (I am going to lobby my Democratic house member who voted for that bill). Those of us who live in these states have worked our asses off to make them better. NC was the first southern state to pass a bill that favorably targeted the LGBT community (an anti bullying bill that we passed in 2010). It took the federal government until 2007 to pass a bill that favorably targeted the LGBT community. That was an amazing accomplishment. We did it pretty much with zero help from our liberal brethren north of the Mason Dixon who like to lecture us now. It is people like us who voted in that primary for Hillary and did so purposely. And when Sanders and his supporters try to tell us that our votes shouldn't count because our states have been hijacked by right wing loons, after they haven't done a God damned thing to help us make these places better, it sticks in my craw. BTW I don't see people on your side complaining about Kansas to name one place that has passed several things against gays and went for Bernie. We don't hear how conservative they are and how their votes shouldn't matter. I wonder why.

Oh and one last thing. Our governor has lost 5 points in polling, the biggest change since polling has started, to his Democratic opponent since this bill passed in March. Kansas reelected its anti gay bigot governor, we are fixing to vote ours out.

The very definition of apologist going on there at NBC.

It's like explaining which toadstool is the least poisonous.

... or the snake that's the least venomous.

... or the smallest extinction event meteorite strike.

... or the least murderous serial killer.

... or the safest hand gun.

& etc.
