I have heard and read that it's pervasive, but it seems really bad. Watching Maddow, and if it's happening in Maine... too bad their governor is such as asssssshole.
How about your state? I know it abounds.

(281 posts)but my son is a herion addict and it is the most heart breaking thing I've ever had to deal with. He is in an out of rehab and this morning I, his mother, went to the police and turned my son in. He had warrants larceny 6 for stealing bottles of liquor from package stores.
Before you judge me, I supported him in rehab only to have him come home and the first night he shot 3 bags of herion in his arm. He has stolen from me, lied to me and I just couldn't do it anymore.
My heart is broken as he tries calling me from the police station (I googled the number) and I wont answer the phone. He was screaming for me as the cops pulled up in their cars and hand cuffed him.
A piece of me is out of jail, because when you live with a herion addict you are in jail and the other piece of me is crushed, destroyed.

(171,072 posts)of judging you. You are doing the best you can. I am sure it's terribly hard to deal with a loved one who has such a problem. I think he's probably where he needs to be and please don't beat yourself up. At least you know where he is and what he isn't doing. I hope there are programs in your area and do hope someone will get him the help he needs.

(79 posts)The drug problem is huge and nationwide. Society is going to pay a hefty price if measures are not taken to help the addicts.

(281 posts)I know only too well how you feel. If you ever want to talk I am here.
Our governor Malloy came out and stood with Obama on drug use and providing help with rehabs instead of prison. However; he is now closing down the programs that were set up to help addicts along with state layoffs, so I think we are on our own.

(79 posts)I live in a very conservative area, the belief here is throw them in jail. It simply doesn't work! It is a growing problem, treatment must be made available.
