https://www.yahoo.com/news/john-kasich-wishes-lgbt-people-135500889.html?nhp=1If only discrimination were as easy to push aside as Republican John Kasich's presidential campaign.
During an appearance on CNN's State of the Union on Sunday, the Ohio governor dismissed the outcry over anti-LGBTQ laws springing up in states across the country North Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee saying those who face discrimination should take it in stride.
"If you feel as though somebody is doing something wrong against you, can you just, for a second, get over it, you know, because this thing will settle down," Kasich said.
Kasich argued government must balance the interests of religious people who oppose LGBTQ rights and those people who face discrimination.
"I just wish that everybody would just take a breath and calm down, because, you see, trying to figure out how to legislate that balance is complicated, and you keep doing do-overs, because nobody gets it right," he said. "So if we would just kind of calm down here, I think things would settle down. And what I like to say is, 'Just relax.'"
Both our candidates are better than this.

(82,849 posts)Can't you just calm down? Take your beatings quietly, would you? It's not like someone's talking about raising taxes on the overrich (which is a red-light threat level one event, requiring immediate response from the highest levels); it's just your physical well-being, your livelihood, your home - get it? The operative word in all this is "your," not "my." Gov. Kasich isn't going to be inconvenienced in the least, unless you people are going to make a big stink about it, in which case, cut it out right this second.
Yeah, both of the leading Democratic candidates are far preferable to this.

(53,987 posts)What is almost as distressing is the fact many continue to ignore, at our (LGBT's) peril, the new laws which are being introduced around the country. Too many thought "gay rights were wrapped up" with the marriage equality win, in actuality, it was just a step in the right direction but it signaled "something wicked this way comes" to many haters and it energized them, including the Republican base.

The only problem with that statement is it is short-sighted. When people are hell-bent on controlling others (or eliminating them), they rarely stop with just one group. I am gay. I only have sex with men. Pregnancy is not a real concern for me or my husband. However, I have plenty of female friends and I have complete respect for them, and for their ability to make decisions about their bodies!

(45,319 posts)of 'the Closet as Privilege' is dominate, they claim LGBT just need to act straight to avoid discrimination. It's like saying 'if they just stay in their own neighborhoods they won't get hassled by the cops and beaten by bullies, what's wrong with them walking around like citizens?'
I could name names but tons of straight DUers do this. So yeah, Republicans do it too. I expect Republicans to do that, I've been profoundly disappointed by the Democrats who do so.

(24,461 posts)I wish America would just get over their need to go out of their way to demonize races, ethnicities, the LGBTQI community the less fortunate and the infirm.
I wish America would just get over their incessant need to propel profit over humanity.
I wish America would just get over their belief that they have the best health care in the world when millions are pretty much priced out of it.
I can wish in one hand and shit in the other. Guess which hand gets fulfilled first?
