https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2016/0043A new law that will take effect July 1 of this year will allow churches, religious institutions and certain individuals to refuse to provide services, including marriages, to LGBT individuals.
This law may not be as bad or quite as obvious as the one Mississippi recently passed, but it not so subtly leaves the door open to discriminate against LGBT individuals by simply citing one's religion.

(14,177 posts)Now if they are allowed to take in tax free money and they are to provide a service to all people that need it like a food shelf and they discriminate on who they provide that service for that is a different thing all together.

I wouldn't boycott a state over some of this stuff that's going on. But, I would try to find out ahead of time what places within the state are likely to be conservative centric and not go to those places. Like Chick fil A, I won't go to one of those.

(21,786 posts)Churches can't be reasonably expected to perform things that aren't consistent with their beliefs (separation of church and state means they can't be compelled to either), but allowing private individuals to claim religious grounds for refusing services to someone is something else again.
