(4,462 posts)The phrasing or content of the questions often skews results or paints an incomplete picture.
For instance, I didn't see anything in the link that distinguished legal from illegal immigrants in the polls on their impact on the USA. Further, on the question of legalization, there's no indication of what exactly are the "certain requirements" that the undocumented would need to meet to remain in the country or if citizenship would ever be an option.
Such very important nuances often begin to quickly erode partisan divides, and its the reason why immigration, just like abortion and guns, is a very complicated, intransigent and seemingly insoluble problem.

(24,692 posts)nuance does matter. It is a complicated issue.
It is true that once the discussion gets to the specifics of a 'path to legalization' or to citizenship things do get murkier and partisan differences can sometimes blur.
But I think Democrats and republicans come at this 'murky middle' from different ends of the spectrum of attitudes towards immigrants.
"Republicans and Democrats continue to disagree deeply over immigration policies, including how to deal with undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. and whether to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border."
True but 41% of republicans (and 12% of Democrats) do not want any path to legalization regardless of the nature of the 'certain requirements'. And 84% of Trump supporters and 64% of Cruz supporters support building a border wall. It is doubtful that those folks support a path to legalization for those already here.

(67 posts)The GOP are a bunch of moronic bigots. Yet many of them probably make use of cheap labor from illegals. Hypocrites.
