Someone was injured inside a contained area that houses a tiger at the Palm Beach Zoo, according to West Palm Beach Police spokesperson Lori Colombino.
The tiger was tranquilized and rescue workers were waiting for the drugs to take effect so they can safely attend to the victim.
The severity of the injury is unknown at this time.
Colombino says that the tiger is contained in an area and that guests are not at risk.

This zoo is really small and really is not big enough to hold a tiger like this. The last time we went there the tiger was pacing back and forth. He didn't look happy at all. He wanted out of this captive area. It really is better to go to Lion Country Safari where all of the animals are free-roaming and we are in the cages (in our cars).

(15,189 posts)I thought that closed long ago. I agree that tiger deserves a better place if it's like you said. LA Zoo years ago had a Rhino that would clang it's horn on it's gates and you could hear it throughout the park.

(43,198 posts)I guess things like this happen when working with wild cats.
Problem is, with many wildcats precariously endangered in the wild, having some in zoos is almost critical for the basic survival of the species.
Lion Country Safari is nice. Palm Beach Zoo isn't bad. It's a smaller zoo but a nice set-up. And it costs far less than Lion Country.

I have mixed feelings about zoos, but if they are reasonably decent in the space they give the animals and the way they treat the animals, I think they are probably a net good, just because that is the only way some people will learn to appreciate them and want to support conservation.
Otherwise they will just be hunted to extinction anyway.
