Alan Dershowitz Says Zimmerman Prosecutor Went On '40-Minute Rant,' Threatened To Sue Harvard

By Jeff Weiner, Orlando Sentinel

Famed attorney and legal commentator Alan Dershowitz has been one of the harshest critics of State Attorney Angela Corey's approach to prosecuting George Zimmerman. According to Dershowitz, Corey is none too pleased.

In a column posted on Newsmax.com yesterday, Dershowitz says Corey called Harvard Law School, where he is a professor, and "proceeded to engage in a 40-minute rant, during which she threatened to sue Harvard Law School, to try to get me disciplined by the Bar Association and to file charges against me for libel and slander."

When the school explained Dershowitz has a right to express his opinions, Corey "persisted in her nonstop whining," he writes, "claiming that she is prohibited from responding to my attacks by the rules of professional responsibility."

Dershowitz has been critical of Corey since she charged Zimmerman with second-degree murder in April. He says the probable cause affidavit she filed to support that charge omitted key facts and contained "half truths."

guilt. If she did call Harvard and rant about Dershowitz's column, then we have a real problem. I happen to think, without knowing additional details, that Murder was a stretch (it looks like a mirror image of the Dooley case to me and he was charged with manslaughter). The charging document used the mother's voice identification for the cries of help?? Now I can understand an overcharge to get a plea.

A calm phone call to explain her points is easy to exaggerate into "a 40 minute rant."

You should still be able to recognize that a basic requirement to participate in Newsmax is the desire to lie for no reason. Not the ability or willingness to lie, the desire, the drive to lie.

Anyone so deranged as to post there should have every other statement they make in any other context questioned and independently verified before even taken as having the possibility of having any correlation to reality, much less being given the benefit of the doubt and assumed to be true.

When attorneys/legal scholars gained and maintained their reputations through good legal work, and would have refused to comment publically on the legal work of another attorney, but more, would have been embarrassed to see their name posted in tabloid "news"?

Oh ... Those were the days!
