No surprises in Wisconsin

There never were significant doubts about the outcome in Wisconsin. Less than one in six salaried workers in Wisconsin are unionized. Voters with a direct interest in the outcome tended to stand out in expressing their feelings and that gave an impression of support for the recall that wasn't really there. The majority of voters don't care about unions because the welfare of unionized workers doesn't benefit them. In fact, if you are a non-unionized worker, unions are obstacles you have to overcome to get work.

This is important because it is played out at a larger scale in the health care debate. Most voters have health coverage and don't care about those who don't. Most of those who don't have health coverage don't mind freeloading on the rest of us by going to the ER each time they have get rash.
