Sovereign citizens sympathizer apologizes to Jefferson judge (LA)

A man who claimed allegiance to a shadowy anti-government movement in 24th Judicial Court was sentenced Monday (April 4) to a 10-year prison term for simple burglary. Sean Stock, 29, apologized prior to being sentenced for disrupting court at the outset of his trial last month.

Judge Ellen Kovach, attempting to question Stock about his desire to act as his own attorney, was dissatisfied with Stock's assertion that "he was the attorney for his own corporation, an assertion indicative of the sovereign citizens movement," according to Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office press release. Kovach sentenced Stock to 6 months in prison for contempt of court ...

Stock was contrite Monday, telling Kovach "I was rude. I do want to apologize for that," according to the District Attorney's Office.

The apology was enough for Kovach to run the contempt sentence concurrently with burglary sentence. Prosecutors are seeking a longer sentence on the burglary conviction under Louisiana's habitual offender law because of a 2004 conviction for carjacking.
