JOHN KASICH Refuses to Say Why He Signed a Rape Gag Rule Into Law

American Taliban strikes again...

On Saturday, during a meeting with the Plain Dealer editorial board, Gov. John Kasich (R-OH) repeatedly refused to answer questions about why he signed into law a budget that included a provision prohibiting state-funded rape crisis counselors from referring women to abortion services.

The measure, described by critics as “a gag rule,” also strips funding from Planned Parenthood, “blocks public hospitals from arranging transfer agreements with abortion clinics and requires abortion providers to provide ultra sounds on women seeking abortions,” Reuters reported. Clinics that do refer patients to abortion doctors will have their public funding suspended.

But during a heated six-minute exchange about the issue, Kasich would not explain why he supported such a policy. The governor initially shrugged off the pointed question from Democratic challenger Edward FitzGerald and shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Asked again by a member of the paper’s editorial board, Kasich simply reiterated his support for pro-life policies, including an abortion exception in cases of “rape, incest, and life of the mother,” but did not explain how the gag rule advanced that viewpoint. Watch it:

I see him as a stealth candidate: if the Republican convention can't unite on another candidate, they could choose Kasich because he is part of the establishment and isn't as creepy as Cruz--the faintest of faint praise. The only difference between the two is that he is not as rabidly religious as Cruz, but he will propose policies that are terrible. We cannot allow any of them to become president!

He was at or near the bottom in all of the races when there were a dozen or so in the race. Anybody else would have dropped out a long time ago with the finishes Kasich's had so far.

Somebody's covering Kasich financially enough for him to stagger into the convention - held in Cleveland in his home state - and the party will pull some procedure to get him the nomination because the RNC sure as hell doesn't want Trump or Cruz to receive the nomination. They trail in the polls regardless if they're against Clinton or Sanders in a general election. Kasich's a different story.

I wonder if Kasich will be able to blow off this question when it's more than just the Plain Dealer asking it? Assumes two great big Ifs: Kasich being the nominee and someone in the national media actually practicing journalism long enough to ask Kasich specific questions about his record as Ohio's governor.

So, yeah, we'll probably never get an answer to these questions.

Had he not done so he'd have a better chance of serving in the executive branch under a Democrat than a Republican.
