Discouraged this morning, and I need some DU reassurance!

Please, please, please - keep telling me that Obama IS going to win in November.

The country cannot survive a Romney presidency. I can't bear the thought of the idiots and the hicks who surround me in my every day life who will be gloating if Romney wins. The ones who throw hate around like it's the new normal. The ones who cannot tolerate the thought of anyone or anything being evenly remotely different than the stereotypes of themselves. The ones who cannot understand simple math - like adding up what they make versus what the corporate CEO's make, and seeing a difference. They won't dare allow the idea that individuals actually might have worth!

I suffered through George Bush, first as governor, and then as President. I've suffered enough for their ignorance!

I promise to renew my own vigor, and to renew my actions to do whatever I can to get Obama re-elected. But I am surrounded by people who would love to see him lose. After last night's recall, I'm a little discouraged. There ARE positive things to look to - like the Wisconsin Senate. But the discouragement is still there for me.

Fellow DU'ers, I kindly ask that you keep me reminded of the fact that there are still people who, like you and me, genuinely want peace, calm, equality and prosperity for EVERYONE!

We're all in the same boat this morning. After we get through the "grief", we have to get to work.

4. Yes, you're right. We grieve, and then we do need to get to work.

We need to work hard, and we need to be sure that we work hard to the bitter end - taking nothing for granted. I hope our Democratic party leaders understand that, and subscribe to the same philosophy.

2. I'll start this off with saying that nothing I post here is very popular so don't read this if that

bothers you. It seems to me that there is a "company" point of view here that bullies push and others follow.

Personally, I have other things in my life that can give me some good feelings. I think we need to fall back on things in our lives that can give us satisfaction above and beyond politics.

If for example, the right takes over the entire government which could be the outcome in November, are you still alive or is life over for you? I understand the misery that is going on in people's lives because I was a homeless person not so long ago.

Today do something that gives you pleasure and put the politics aside for awhile.

I look at the sea on my way to work and think about the fact that no matter what we do the waves keep rolling in and out. There are a million things that do not depend on what happens politically in this country.

I know I will get a lot of snark for saying what I do but I usually don't bother to read it so I don't give a shit about it.

3. I agree there are times to walk away from the battle...

But this isn't the place for it. We wouldn't sign on here if there wasn't at least a little bit of fight left in us.

6. Not to dump on you personally but your reply is like a lot of things here that bother me.

I did not say a damn thing about walking away from the battle. I said there are other things in life also and you should spend some time with them.

I don't know if you have heard of the idea of mindful meditation. The idea is to live in the moment. Not constantly but for some period of time like a second or a minute or a bunch of minutes. The idea is that you can't effect the past and you don't live in the future. You only have this moment.

If you spend some time in mindful meditation you will be stronger to live in what ever politics places in your life.

Now as I said before I'm ready for the snark.

On edit;

I think a lot about what would life be like if the right took over. It would not be pretty. But I also think about what could a person like me do. One idea I get is communal living. Or in other words how could you live without being too effected by what's going on.

It isn't possible for most of us but maybe some of us could live communally and survive on some land somewhere. Someone would have to own the land I guess and share it. I knew people who lived off the grid in the lower Sierra Nevada Mnts. They had a job but it didn't pay much and they didn't need much.
I understand what I am saying isn't for the majority but it is some of the things I think about.

7. First off - welcome to DU.

Don't worry about posts being popular. There will always be good day and bad days on DU. Be honest and be genuine, and people will eventually come to understand and respect your ideas.

As to your thoughts, you make good points. And yes, I, too, have other people and things in my life that distract me from the ups and downs of politics. It's an important thing to have moderation in all things.

But when I'm on DU, I'm focused on politics. A lot of that focus has to do with the work day. It is during that time frame where I have the most availability to read and post to DU. You see, I work in an office where I am surrounded by some very vocal, very wealthy Republicans. They think they've got it ALL figured out, and they think I'm a fool for not mimicking their beliefs and ideas.

But trust me, I already know...I'm not the one who is the fool!

9. Thanks, I get anxiety when I think about the right taking over the country and we are forced to

live in a fascist right wing ideological country. It is something I feared for a long time.

But I think that it could be a real possibility so I think about how I would deal with it. I am not giving up or not willing to fight against it but that's how my mind works.

There are two possible outcomes in November. I can't spend the next five months avoiding a very real possibility.

I worry about the same things. I also worry about the Democratic party leaders thinking Obama's re-election is "in the bag" and not working hard enough, not being tough enough, etc.

8. I really think Romney would be worse than Bush..
Wed Jun 6, 2012, 12:18 PM

Bush was the worst, but most of the time, he either didn't care or was drunk on his ass. He said a lot of stupid stuff, and couldn't comprehend half of what was going on. Romney, on the other hand would be working for the 1% and his rich cronies. He would sell this country down the river.. in a heartbeat.

Romney is the conscious tool of the 1%, Bush was an idiot that liked to blow things up.

I don't like either one but Romney would be absolutely insidious. Not to mention the make-up of the Supreme Court, it would go from right wing to a subsidiary of the Koch Brothers. That's what the 1% wanted to buy with Citizens United, SCOTUS.

13. That's exactly right.

Bush was a puppet to Cheney, Rove, et al. Romney would be for real. He'd fix it to where there was NO way for the 99% to ever catch back up in any way.

We would all be living in poverty, working for peanuts, with no holidays, no vacations, no retirement, no health care, and no hope for it to ever change.

That is not the America that I want to live in!

10. Please look at the Electoral Map
Wed Jun 6, 2012, 12:23 PM
Jun 2012

Obama is in excellent shape there. Romney has no margin for error, while Obama has several paths to victory. This isn't to say it's a cakewalk, but we have the advantage there.

http://www.270towin.com/2012_election_predictions.php?mapid=mrp (This is my map, 270towin still lists Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire as swing states, but I see no evidence for that)

This election proved that new Citizens United money is a force to be reckoned with, but we can overcome it. I have very little doubt. We just need grassroots organization seen in Wisconsin spread all throughout the country.
