Springsteen and his band canceled a concert in North Carolina. Steve Van Zandt made some most excellent remarks about that cancellation backstage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:
We just felt the issue was just too important. This really vile and evil discrimination is starting to spread state to state and we thought we better take a stand right now and catch it early and maybe try and stop it. At least set some kind of example for others.
Am I the only person out there hoping that soon there will be a unified artist response to all these state laws that target the LGBT community? Will we see another one of these artistic efforts:

(13,421 posts)Not only is he incredibly talented in so many different ways, but he is also a guy that walked away from it to do education and organizing on issues like Apartheid. I'm not sure how many folks recognize him for his works.
I'd love to see him keep going for a very long time!

never saw that but I was on the road 24/7/365 back then and didn't have a lot of access to news. Everybody is so young in that video... now I feel old.
This good and I hope there will more artist activist productions to raise awareness of the crap we are dealing with.

(13,421 posts)Very sad. I agree--I feel old. Tired too.
Thing is, I refuse to sit down and keep quiet about the SAME shit I was yelling about 30-40 years ago. I was out there on the streets then because it was wrong, and it still is. Now, however, we have more avenues of protest.
The artists can raise the issues. They always have and probably always will.
