I'll wait, thanks, for either President Hillary Sanders or President Bernie Clinton to make a far better appointment.

(6,409 posts)It would be vengeful, even crazier than most of what they do, and completely hypocritical. Perfect!

(6,324 posts)I am sure that's exactly what they have in mind. If they win, they get their guy. If they lose they go ahead and put him in.
That makes the obstructionist shit a no-lose proposition for them.
Obama should announce he will withdraw his nomination the day before the election if he hasn't been confirmed by then. That's a no-lose move for us, because that means if we win a better nomination gets made and if we lose there wasn't going to be anyone we wanted in there anyway.

(58,785 posts)the president should have a good discussion with our nominee about this, but it's Obama's call while he is president. If the Democrat wins, and especially if we get a majority in the Senate, the next 2 or 3 justices will most likely be appointed by that Democrat. I think the court would be just fine with a Merrick Garland on it.
And if the GOP nominee (Paul Ryan?) wins, we either be very thankful that Garland was confirmed or sick that he was not.
All the names being pushed by the right are unbelievably hard core and believe almost all progressive governmental actions are unconstitutional: Including Social Security, child labor laws, compulsory education, various taxes, Medicare, federal disaster relief, and many others.
They also believe in a very stratified society with power and wealth concentrated in the upper classes, who are naturally overall wiser and more responsible or they wouldn't be where they are. They also have more to lose and therefore are more invested in a stable society. Or something like that.
