NC evenly split over HB2

A bare majority of North Carolinians think it was a good idea for the state to overturn the Charlotte ordinance that would have allowed transgender people to use the bathroom for the sex they identify with ...

... a poll done April 1-3 for Time-Warner Cable News ... found that 51 percent of respondents thought it was a good idea to strike down the Charlotte ordinance, as the legislature and McCrory did March 23 by approving House Bill 2. But 39 percent said McCrory’s handling of the law makes their opinion of McCrory more negative and 35 percent said it makes their opinion of him more positive. That’s just within the poll’s 4.3 percent margin of error.

McCrory’s general election foe, Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper, got slightly better reviews on the issue. The poll found 35 percent said Cooper’s handling of the issue gave them a more positive opinion of him and 29 percent now view him more negatively. Cooper criticized the law and declined to defend it in court.

A lot of people were not swayed either way regarding the two gubernatorial candidates: More than a third of respondents to both questions said either that HB2 made no difference to their opinion of them or were unsure. When asked how the issue would affect their vote in November, 33 percent said they are now more likely to support McCrory and 35 percent more likely to vote for Cooper ...
