Some need a pick me-up in the early mornings. Many people head to Starbucks for their dose of caffeine.
However, one customer received an unexpected comment on their coffee cup label: DIABETES HERE I COME.
That's the message printed on a grande cup of white mocha served to a customer at the Palencia Starbucks.
A photo of the message on the cup was shared with Action News Jax on Facebook.
That first word just automatically brought the picture of both sisters in my head, and I was taken aback, said the Starbucks customer.

(28,749 posts)The Starbucks DID write the comment at the bottom.
Drives a stake through the heart of that conjured outraged and puts it back where it belongs.

(7,429 posts)Watch the report. His sisters have diabetes and he knows what they went through.
The Manager even apologized that this should not have been written on the cup.

(23,369 posts)... Starbuck's employees should be trained to ignore them. If I went to Starbucks, I'd be looking for coffee, not somebody's opinion on my order.
What if I wrote "Boaty McBoatface" on my order? So what?
I'm sure that's not the worst thing that's been written on a Starbucks order. (and, there may be a ton of fat and sugar in that particular cup)

(23,369 posts)In this case, maybe instead of a name, it's a "note to self".
But, this app invites a lot.
Me, I avoid Starbucks because I'm cheap. Plus, I would be too confused by the array of ordering options. I don't think you can walk in and just say "Coffee, Black".

(28,749 posts)Starbucks gets a lot of angst directed at it, and for the most part it's unwarranted IMO.

(23,369 posts)Yeah, I have to admit, I did buy from Starbucks once. 5am in Las Vegas, and the only place that I found open was a Starbucks. I got my coffee black, my wife's coffee cream/sugar, and was not sneered at for not knowing the Starbucks language. It was a bit expensive, but hey, it's Vegas, and we wanted coffee "right fucking now".
The Vegas strip is very serene at 5am.

(5,764 posts)One doesn't need to be a doctor to say that consuming large amounts of fat and sugar, dramatically increases one's risk of developing diabetes.

(36,827 posts)I do believe health information should be widely disseminated to consumers, but beyond that everyone is free to do with their own bag of meat as they please. The idea that we can use the force of law to ban or restrict certain types of foods or shame people into behavioral changes is just stupid and never works.

(3,042 posts)Do these coffee servers know anything about his current state of health? How many times a week he has this beverage? What else he is eating or how much exercise he gets?
Probably not.
Maybe they should just so their job and let the man's doctor do his. And not confuse their wee little brains with pretending to be the man's doctor.

(5,764 posts)The message was put there by someone with access to his account app; a friend or family member, perhaps, who cares about him, and does not want to see him suffer from the effects of diabetes.
EllieBC
(3,042 posts)Because that message had zero concern and a whole lot of troll in it.
Again, leave it up to man's medical professionals.

I love the victim mentality on display here. I saw someone on TV with diabetes and my heart bled for them so I'm the victim in all this and Starbuckscorp owes me compensation as well as publicity for my cause which is me.

(19,274 posts)That one drink had as much sugar as 6 Krispy Kreme glazed donuts, for fuck's sake.
The man stated he has two sisters with diabetes. If we're talking about the most common form of diabetes (acquired through diet), he should realize more than most how one's diet affects health by what he's seen in his own family.

(13,889 posts)Likewise observing that heroin is addictive doesn't mean that I don't care about junkies. And observing that a drink has an unhealthily high sugar content doesn't mean the poster above lacks compassion for people with eating disorders. It doesn't compel you to consume all that sugar any more than the junkie is compelled to go out and shoot up again or that someone is compelled to get soaked if they won't wear a raincoat.
You're not a victim here.
