We lost, put it in perspective and let's move on to the bigger issues...

How to win in November.

First of all, last night's election was a specific election that had internal dynamics that are not applicable to the fall election.

Second, Wisconsin is Wisconsin and should NOT be extrapolated into a national event. Just because the media treats every political event as if it has national repercussions does not make it so.

Third, what this does say about the state of politics in 2012 is that the game is on and that everything has to be fought for. Nothing should be taken for granted and that the long term implications should always be considered.

What should we take away? A ground game is essential for our side. We know we will never be able to match them dollar for dollar so we have to re-energize the Obama grass root structure that was in place for the 2008 election.

It's going to take more than writing a check this time. We have th people. We need to put them to use.

But I'm still dreading this weekend's trip up to DH's right wing family in Wisconsin.

I plan to read. A lot. I try not to discuss politics with them, but its hard.

Those are important variables unique to last nights election and have nothing to do with the national race as well as races in other states and localities.

Another thing, it is really hard to beat an incumbent, even the likes of Walker.

requires inspiration, exuberance, something for people to rally to. This is the biggest challenge the Obama administration faces, because they are no longer viewed as "outsiders" but part of the political beltway now.

As usual, you've put your finger right on the central issues.

We will wipe away our tears, and bind up our wounds......and carry on.
