Lets say Trumpy Dumpy doesnt get the numbers.
Would the convention be like what was on "House of cards" season 4.
Would they have people from each state, saying how many delegates they giving to
what candidate they support, and could someone who didnt run at all, become the
repug nod.

(20,886 posts)That's the way it's done. And it is possible to have a non candidate win.
I want to say not likely it would happen, but with the clown car anything is possible.

(20,886 posts)I'm stocking up on popcorn.
I thought originally that Trump would find a way to "gracefully" exit, but he's come to believe his own hype and is in it for the win. When he doesn't win, all hell is going to break loose. And I can't even guess what will happen when Cruz bites the dust. I've also said from the time he entered the race that Kasich will be the nominee. But, now I'm not sure they won't bring in someone other than him.
Really, grab the popcorn.

(24,692 posts)they will have to change that rule since they are likely to nominate someone who has not competed in the primaries at all. Trump is the only one who has won 8 states but Cruz is close and will probably get there too.
They will undoubtedly change this rule whether Trump gets to 1237 or not. If he does, they will raise the requirement of how many states you have to have won so that Cruz can't be nominated - like they did in 2012 to keep Ron Paul from being officially nominated - so they can 'unite' behind their nominee. If Trump comes up short of 1237 they will have to change the rule to allow the nomination of candidates who have not won (or even competed in) primaries in any states at all.

(35,701 posts)There are going to a fair number of Trump delegates who, while pledged to Trump on the first ballot because he won the primary in their state, aren't actually supporting Trump for president. Trump cannot tell them how to vote on rules changes. And many of these faithless delegates want to get to a second ballot so that they can vote for someone else.
