Get That Song Outta My Head!

[IMG][/IMG]

The nightmare began when my husband walked into our kitchen and said, “I’ve had this song stuck in my head all day .?.?.”

No! I thought. Don’t say it!

“Remember that song from the original Karate Kid movie?” he continued.

For the love of God, no!

“You know how it goes. ‘You’re the best around .?.?. na na na na na, na na na na. You’re the best around .?.?.”

It was too late. Now I had an earworm — a song, melody or jingle that gets stuck in your head.

Especially if you're working in a cramped environment with a lot of other people around... Like in, say, a Yellow Submarine.

I don't recall the song (nor do I want to) but it really depressed me. I was in a funk the whole time. Another time it was a toothpaste commercial jingle - da da da da da da DA da da da da da da DA.. and the clean in your mouth is COL-GATE! I thought I'd go mad.

I've had a soundtrack playing in my head. At the moment, the song is Imagine. Whenever a song becomes too oppressive or annoying, I have a fallback melody that can use to drive out the unwanted one: You Are My Sunshine. I guess when that doesn't work anymore, I'll go out and bark at the moon.

music earworm often seems to prevent me from getting to sleep, and I have often woke up with the same tune in the morning.....I have long avoided listening to music at all because of this annoyance
