BWAAAHAAAAA!
Just heard this on BBC Radio 4.

(CNN)George Mason University recently renamed its law school after the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia -- and then quickly realized the acronym that name created was problematic.
The school first announced it would change the name to The Antonin Scalia School of Law, or ASSoL, after receiving an anonymous $30 million donation on March 31.
Observers took to Twitter to comment on the acronym's similarity to a vulgarity, with many of those tweeting not a fan of the conservative justice.
George Mason School of Law renamed Antonin Scalia School of Law, or ASSLaw...ASSOL. Did NOBODY proof those acronyms? pic.twitter.com/D1C6HncReT

ASSoL? Did anyone think to spell/sound out that acronym before approving it? https://t.co/Up2o27bSe8

#ASSLaw is trending. Lol. I don't think this is the PR they were expecting. Antonin Scalia School of Law. Roflmao I prefer #ASSoL myself.

The school acknowledged the issue in a letter to its students and alumni, writing, "The name initially announced -- The Antonin Scalia School of Law -- has caused some acronym controversy on social media. The Antonin Scalia Law School is a logical substitute."

(58,785 posts)more appropriate over the years as information about Scalia's lack of ethics and corruption comes out. And any institution that honors his name richly deserves it.
Yes, I am irresponsible enough to say I believe he will be proven at very least guilty of profound breaches of ethics, and very possibly legal crimes. That last trip to a secret meeting whose other attendees are still unidentified (flew in and out of isolated air strip in the desert) is only one of many. This in an era of concerted plots to set aside the will of the people to subvert over 200 years of interpretations of the Constitution, the structure of our government, and even the meaning of democracy.
Scalia's legacy: ASSoLism to the Nth degree.

What an unsavory, repellent gasbag he was.

(58,785 posts)disgrace of the plotters, who are very much still with us. It seems to me that our government may well have identified the planes, and even some people, who flew in and out of there. That airstrip is very close to our international border.
Scalia was also actively trying to get rid of laws making political corruption, influence peddling, etc., illegal when he died.

(35,701 posts)It is their own fault for being so priggishly stilted in the first place. School of Law is oh so much more sophisticated than Law School.

Nuh Uh
(47 posts)I guess they didn't care for the jokes. ASSOL is now ASLS Antonin Scalia Law School. I guess they thought what now sounds like a disease was better than the original.

(12,328 posts)"And the relationship continues to grow: on Thursday, Mason's law school announced a $10 million gift from the Koch Foundation, along with $20 million from an anonymous donor, to rename the law school for the late conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. GMU President Angel Cabrear called the donations "a milestone moment for the university."
<snip>
"Why George Mason? The school's growth since its founding in 1972 has coincided with Koch's growing philanthropy. George Mason has longstanding connections with the Kochs, notably Richard Fink, an executive vice president of Koch Industries who is on the Mercatus and IHS boards."
"On the university's board is Kimberly Dennis, president and CEO of the Searle Freedom Trust, a grant-making foundation with close ties to the Kochs. Before her, Nancy Pfotenhauer, a former spokeswoman for Republican Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign and the head of Koch Industries' Washington office, was on the board."

(12,328 posts)"In academic circles, the school's law and economics programs have clear reputations as libertarian strongholds."
"It is one of the most ideologically homogenous law schools in the nation. And the ideology is 'the market is always right; get the government out of it,'" said Brian Leiter, the director of the University of Chicago's Center for Law, Philosophy and Human Values, who conducts research on law schools' scholarship."
