North Carolina's "bathroom bill" just cost the state 400 future jobs.

PayPal has canceled its plans to open a new global operations center in Charlotte, following passage of a North Carolina law that prevents cities from creating non-discrimination policies based on gender identity.

The measure also mandates that students in state schools use the bathroom that corresponds with their gender when they were born.

On March 23, North Carolina, in an emergency session, passed the controversial Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act.

Critics have blasted the law for excluding gays and transgender people from legal protections.

As a result, PayPal (PYPL, Tech30) says it will no longer open its facility in Charlotte, which was expected to employ 400 people. PayPal had announced its plans to open the operations center only two weeks ago. ............

Because if you're born with a dinky, but you should have had a hoo ha (it's what my sister calls it), how comfortable would you be in a room with a bunch of men watching you pee out of that new vagina? I'd venture, not much.

Even if the parts were still the original issue, I don't think many transgender people would feel comfortable in their "biologically assigned" facilities.

And yes, it's put out as being a way to make it "safe" for all the poor women-folk who might subjected to a dinky in a dress. Oh, the horror. There's more to the bill, stuff that was put in to get it passed on the down-low, I guess, but this is the issue that's most hurtful in my opinion.

I too was in the military, and like Sheila T I used unisex restrooms. In America. The only trouble we had was the guys forgot to put the seat down.

Let's see how many other companies have to do similar things before either:
(a) Gov Mcrory has another "emergency" session to fix the problem or
(b) Gov Mcrory is booted out, along with many of his sicko pals in the legislature.

6. Just a "pet peeve", but

could we on DU please stop calling this a "bathroom bill"?? That's using the bigots terminology.

reminds me of that scene in Jaws where the Mayor is saying; "you say barracuda and people go, 'meh'...you say 'shark', and you've got a full-blown panic just in time for the 4TH of July".

The Repugs NC Legalize Discrimination Bill has about as much to do with "bathrooms" as the typical T-bagging brain has to do with reality. They are using the "scary" image of some Ted Bundy type dressing in a chiffon mini so he can peer at your wife, mother or daughter while they pee.

That's what they want you to believe it's about, but we all know it's not. It's about the person who happens to choose to live as the gender they really identify with, being able to go into a restroom, relieve themselves, and leave...just like every other person does.

Truth be told, I know some transgender folks that are female, but appear more male than The Rock. Do they really want The Rock going into the ladies restroom just because he has a "hoo-haa"?

We need to get over ourselves. I spent 30 years in the Navy, and you would not believe the number of bars, restaurants or public places I went into overseas that simply had one bathroom. Heck, there was a place in Ecuador that just had a trough out back...and I was in a beach bathroom in Corfu, Greece one day and a young lady came in, put her leg up on the sink and commenced to shave her legs...and other areas...as if I didn't exist.

This law they passed has nothing to do with keeping pervs out of bathrooms, and do you know how you can tell that? It's because they INSIST INCESSENTLY that it does.
