Tennessee Senate Scheduled To Vote To Make The Bible The Official State Book

http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/today_tennessee_senate_scheduled_to_vote_on_making_the_bible_the_official_state_book

Today the Tennessee Senate is scheduled to vote on making the Christian Holy Bible the official state book. Lawmakers tried last year to pass a similar bill, but it was sent back to committee after the state attorney general voiced misgivings.

In a 7-1 vote the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the bill. The House has already approved the bill (video above.)...

Sen. Southerland "said it is aimed at highlighting the historical significance of the Bible in Tennessee, not as an official endorsement of a religion," the Chicago Tribune reports....

"The Holy Bible is hereby designated as the official state book," it reads. "This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring."

So many fundamentalists want to force the Bible on society, but are too lazy to actually read the book, outside of select passages their pastor gives them. It's pretty insulting to call a book the most important book ever, then be too lazy to actually read it, but still want to force it on people.

As the Bible will have become The Official State Book, it makes it OK to quote it everywhere at any time.

Reading this aloud to a group of nuns?
"Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth-- for your love is more delightful than wine. Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes; your name is like perfume poured out. No wonder the maidens love you! Take me away with you--let us hurry! Let the king bring me into his chambers. We rejoice and delight in you; we will praise your love (i.e., semen) more than wine. How right they are to adore you!"

Then let's read this to children wanting to learn about marital fidelity:
Genesis 19:31–32
31 And the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come in to us after the manner of all the earth. 32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve offspring from our father.”

The Bible, Official State Book: Tennessian lawmakers will get more than they bargained for.

They say that it would be a desecration to the bible to have it classified in State Code, along with the State Bird, State Song and, yes, the "State Gun" (the .50 caliber Sniper Rifle)....

Peace,

Since there are well over 50 versions of the English-language translations, and a lot of those versions disagree with one another, it would be a crying shame if they picked the wrong one. You know, one of the versions with just, um, inadequate versions of tRuTh*

* The conflicting teams of translators are sorry,
totally unsure about some of the stuff they put in there,
maybe a lot of this stuff. Whatever.

because in Leviticus it states that God considers tatoos to be an abomination.

And what about all those animal sacrifices they're going to have to do; remember, the smell of a burning ram is pleasing to God

making some other pack of lies the "state book." Meanwhile, a good look around any of those oh-so-Christian-holier-than-thou states will tell you there's a lot of useful work they could be doing if their souls didn't already belong to the rich.

Loved this part!

The state that was home to Pulitzer Prize winners Robert Penn Warren and Cormac McCarthy, not to mention Alex Haley and playwright Tennessee Williams, should have no trouble choosing a more appropriate "state book" (if indeed any state needs to designate a "state book&quot .

Geez...these red state GOP leaders are trying to outdo themselves in stupidity. It has nothing to do with it being a religious book!? The FUCK you say! The GOP is unwinding.
