In the future if someone is in trouble and I find out they are a Republican I will just walk away. I won't help them in any way. I have already ended my association with all the Republicans I know. And none of them are my friends.

(25,699 posts)At least explain to them that you can't help them, because they'd just start expecting handouts. remind them there's no free lunch. And assure them that if they had only made better life-choices, they wouldn't be in whatever mess they're in.
It's what they would say to you, after all.

(10,602 posts)I agree and I would add that they might get too dependent on someone helping them. They will become lazy slackers. And if they are in a life threatening situation they put themselves there. They have to be accountable for their actions.

(170 posts)many will go out of their way to help people they know/meet in their personal lives, but the minute the situation becomes abstract - helping some guy a thousand miles away you've never met - they invoke this Ayn Rand claptrap. Truly confused people.

Question 1a....
DiverDave
(4,886 posts)If I can help ANYONE I will.
It's the HUMAN thing to do.
The great wall can be seen from outer space, and it was built 1 brick at a time.

(52 posts)That's might nice of you (NOT). But the real message you're saying is:
I am just so unique and nice that it compels me to help anyone regardless of the DANGER they are to rational, normal human beings because I know so much MORE than other people, especially those totally fucked by these right wingers.
I could go on with this but hopefully you get the point. If not then let me put it another way - what MastersNemisis is saying, or at least I think he/she is saying is that they are the enemy to everything decent, ordinary Americans stand for. Just look at what they've done to our country this past decade alone. They don't care if people starve to death, lose jobs through no fault of their own, allow the super rich corporations to hoard TRILLIONS of dollars while the rest of us have to struggle day by day, et. al.
But YOU, being so nice and special, don't seem to care. If any of the scum on the right need help, you'll jump right in. Sorta like trying to help a rabid dog by giving it some food or water and then it takes a bite out of you.
No DiverDave, you are not special, just incredibly naive regarding the real danger they are to the rest of us. It is WAR in this country - we are in a war whether or not you see the reality in front of you or not. And war can only be waged one way - to win.
And sadly, for you at least, those on the right look at people like you and laugh derisively. I know because I've tried to reach out to them in the past only to have my fingers cut off.

(52 posts)Glad to be of assistance. LOL
Seriously - please leave attempted guilt trips out of objectivity when discussing economic warfare going on in this country. I never meant to include anyone else into this discussion. I merely had my lens on YOU. I'm sorry if the truth hurts but that's what truth often does - hurt. This is why the right wing fanatics flee from it back into their dark holes - they can't deal with it.

(52 posts)Ritter guy or gal - sorry, I got you mixed up with the other person when I responded about any alleged insults to one's family. When I gave that rather brilliant retort about a 'pig', I was talking about right wingers NOT people who split tickets or vote for people from both parties. I WAS referring to the right wing candidates running. Okay?
In fact, in the past I've even voted for some Republicans on state level while Democrats on national level or vice versa. But now, sadly, I am compelled to vote, when I do vote, straight Democratic ticket due to the reality we face.
Hope this cleared up my thoughts. I'm still trying to sort through the Wisconsin thing.

(4,886 posts)makes you act like a dick.
You dont know me.
I simply stated that I help people that need help, not help a stinking republican get elected.
Man, your response is simply bizarre...
And Yeah, I think I am pretty special when I help someone in a
rainstorm push their car out of an intersection.
I didnt ask his voting record.
Are you saying I SHOULD have?
Oh, and true story, that.
Hell, I'd even help YOU.
One brick at a time, man

(1,168 posts)I'm a volunteer firefighter/EMT and as such get many chances to aid folks I don't know that are in need of assistance but for now on if my pager goes off at 2 AM I'm not getting out of bed if the 911 caller is not a Democrat. Better I get some sleep than to save some miserable pukes life/property.

(52 posts)You mean vote for 1 right winger who might not be as extreme as the other 1 you're not voting for? Sorry, but if it looks like a pig, walks like a pig, oinks like a pig, then it's a freaking right winging nutjob.. LOL

(8,556 posts)Post after post, that's what you argue. Is that because you're a liberal who feels strongly about these things? Maybe.
But perhaps your intention is to raise a chorus of replies saying 'Yes! Let them die,' which would be quite similar to the nastiness we saw during the Republican debates last year. That was roundly and rightly condemned here. So doing the same thing now would make liberals look pretty hypocritical.
Aw heck. Just speculation here. Surely you aren't deliberately trying to encourage that.
