To hell with this state

I grew up in CA... spent the first 25 years of my life there.

Now I've lived in WI for the past 6 years with my partner. When I first moved here, people were nice. Even though I lived in the burbs/semi-rural area.

After moving here, I worked my ass off to get a master's degree in math and to teach at the college level. Now I'm the enemy. Oh, and "merit pay" because I teach a high demand, always under staffed subject? Yeah right!

So I'll say this now. I'm outta here sooner rather than later. Especially after my partner finishes up her schooling in 2-3 years if she gets a job out of state, I'll follow along with her. Math professors are always needed somewhere. And even if it will be a non-public union state, the weather will probably be nicer.

2. I am sorry.

My daughter lives in Madison. She is going to leave as soon as she can. She is a public employee, too.

She had to get a smaller place because of what Scumbag did to their benefits, and because her roommate moved out of state as soon as she completed her PhD. She did not even consider academic job offers in WI. All the smart people will leave.

3. It sucks... we just bought a house about a year ago

Partially because we were sick of throwing our money away on rent and we were living in like a 700 square foot townhouse. With her aunt and uncle as the landlords. Ugh.

At least the housing market will likely go up by the time we're ready to leave.

And yep, talk about some major brain drain going to happen to this state! Welcome to Wississippi! No offense to Mississippians.

6. So you've experienced two disastrous recall elections

One where a sitting governor who was starting to investigate the energy scandals was tossed out and replaced with an airheaded action film actor, and now this one where a crook is given the OK to continue what he's doing by a sizable majority of voters. You have my sympathies.
