"The woman is a victim..."

No, I am not!

It struck a nerve with me that Trump said women are "victims", implying we must be too stupid to make our own choices. Trump says that a woman who chooses abortion must be an ignorant victim, a simple-minded, even vacuous, creature who must have been coerced by some greedy doctor who only wants to trick them out of their money. Or, as Cruz tells us, women would never forsake our true, god-given "gift" for endless motherhood to ever have an abortion.

Trump doesn't believe that women are independent, intelligent individuals capable of determining our own moral agency at need. They don't even acknowledge that women are autonomous citizens with rights (at least for now) that have been affirmed by the highest court in the land. Trump, like other Republicans, is hostile to the continued advancement of women. We would never have evolved without access to contraception and abortion, and that is a major threat.

Women are not victims, we are legally and culturally empowered human beings who have every right to make our own independent decisions about our basic sexuality and family planning choices. Women are no longer the submissive chattel of men. We aren't going back to the "good old days" as the vapid second class citizens the GOP brand of governance would like us to be. We will not labels as "victims" and be told to go quietly back into kitchen and remain dependent on the good will of men and the whims of their failing patriarchal society for our existence.

Women seeking abortions are not victims. The framework presented by Trump in this discussion denies women agency, and promotes the notion that women are incapable of making their own decisions as fully autonomous citizens.

The discussion as presented by pro-life groups and republicans is wholly paternalistic, within which women are childlike empty vessels incapable of making informed decisions.

Sickening.
