Historically, the Department of Justice had to approve any changes in voting procedure in Arizona because of the state's history of discrimination against minorities in voting. But a Supreme Court decision in 2013 allowed Arizona to begin making changes without federal oversight. Leaders said if federal scrutiny had been required before making changes, Tuesday's situation would have never happened.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who lost Arizona to Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, called the situation "a disgrace."
"In the United States of America, democracy is the foundation of our way of life," the Democratic presidential hopeful said Wednesday. "And what happened in Arizona is a disgrace. I hope that every state in this country learns from that and learns how to put together a proper election where people can come in and vote in a timely manner and go back to work."
I think it's time for Ms. Purcell to lose her job.

She admitted she was responsible, and that money saving was part of the equation.

come up with feeble alibis after it is too late to make any difference.

(1,217 posts)to admit that they receive $1.25 for every Independent but did not allow them to vote. The crowd went wild. The other truly interesting part was the man who is the Director of the Elections Board (?) who said he warned her about the lack of polls, locations far away from the 'poorer' areas and that as a former member of their legislature---YES---a revote is not out of the question.

not destroying property. Be smart, be respectful, be strategic . .
But understand, if you continue to passively accept whatever the

How about you? Always waiting for someone to stand up for your rights?
It does not work that way.

(4,211 posts)I don't ask people to do what I myself haven't already done.
I, however, wont advocate riots... and the resulting violence that would ensue.
Peaceful protests? Absolutely. I've led a few, and participated in more... but not riots.
If you want people to be more active, consider becoming a leader that gets that action going. The democratic party is always in need of leaders... especially ones who are ethically grounded. It would be a bit more productive than implying people are cowards.
Also, before thinking that no one is doing anything positive, take a look at this:
