Yes, Mark Kirk is gay. However, my snark aside, HRC should support candidates that support equality.

Personally, I find the closet abhorrent. But many of my friends are closeted to their parents, who for people my age are mostly in their 80s. Yelling at a semi-senile person about equality is cruel. So I get why some people stay in the closet to their folks.

I think HRC really pulled a mistake here.

and a republican....so there's clearly the sound of clashing going on in his head. I don't understand gays joining organizations that hate them. Some gay republicans I know are very very rich.... but that's no excuse. Rich people are still rich when Dems are in charge. Most gay republicans I know are republicans as part of their "act" to seem straight to their families.

Most immediately, Kirk's record on gay rights is far weaker than that of his Democratic opponent, Rep. Tammy Duckworth—according to no less an authority than HRC itself. In 2013-14, Kirk earned just a 78 percent score on HRC's report card, and in 2009-10, he managed an atrocious 39 percent. (Kirk has no rating for 2011-12, presumably because he missed many votes while recovering from a stroke.) By contrast, Duckworth, who was first elected to Congress in 2012, notched a perfect 100 percent in 2013-14. In what universe does it make sense for an advocacy group to support the candidate who is unambiguously worse on their key issues?

Yes, this is not the first time. They have made a bunch of nasty endorsements and also betrayed the transgender part of the family and they are mostly popular with DU's straight Hillary supporters who proudly stand with them because they endorsed Hillary.

Here is a straight DUer straight splaining to us about how great the HRC is and using it to mock Bernie. I am fed the fuck up with these majority members who post about LGBT issues and groups as a weapon of partisan politics. Many of them promote themselves as super insightful and sensitive about minority issues and the judges of others. But they gay bait, with abandon. For Hillary....

Now even the Human Rights Campaign is part of the "establishment" according to Bernie.
I guess gay rights has come a long way -- when even the largest gay rights group in the country can be criticized for being part of the "establishment."
