Why did the FBI change the password of the iPhone to begin with?I have read something, they wanted force the iPhone into synching up with the iCloud, but why didn't the FBI do this properly?
Why didn't they read the manual?
Why didn't they consult Apple to ask in advance whether this would work?
Before tampering with a stolen Smartphone like an ordinary thief, shouldn't they have taken precautions?

(34,845 posts)I believe it was at the FBI's request but it was done incorrectly by a county employee and no one knows the password now.
Did you really think the FBI is chock-full of drooling idiots who don't know how to read a manual?

These are the guys who concoct terror-plots, talk disgruntled and mentally defective people into joining those terror-plots, and then boast that they prevented a terror-plot.

(34,845 posts)Not a good strategy, imo. The FBI has 36,000 employees. I think it's fair to assume that some of them are actually quite brilliant. And some not nearly so. But it's a large organization. And wanting to search a terrorist's phone seems like common-sense to me, actually.
Why should a phone be treated any differently than any other personal property -searchable with a legal warrant?
And as I said, I believe it was the county employee (the county owns the phone, btw) who did it incorrectly.
