Kansas City resident Chris Stokes tweeted a video, which has since gone viral. In it, officers can be seen spraying at crowds outside of the rally.

"The vast majority of people were very peaceful and staying on the sidewalk. A small group decided to back into the street to show they were not being aggressive," Stokes said. "As you can tell, the people near me all thought it wasn't a good idea for them to be in the street, as we were just there to protest Trump's hate."

Stokes said police unloaded several cans and one officer walked along the sidewalk spraying people who were "clearly lawfully standing on the sidewalk."

"To be clear, I don't think the police reaction was appropriate to anyone involved, but most especially to the people you can tell are clearly being peaceful and non-combative," Stokes said.
