FORT LAUDERDALE One day after he officially endorsed Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, former rival Ben Carson said he would be willing to be his vice president.
Asked at a Republican Party fundraiser in Broward County, one of the biggest counties in Florida, whether he would be amenable to the No. 2 slot, Mr. Carson said, Ive told Mr. Trump that if it was really going to make a big difference Id be willing to.
Mr. Carson also told the crowd heavy with supporters of the home-state Sen. Marco Rubio that he didnt think Mr. Rubio, Ohio Gov. John Kasich or Texas Sen. Ted Cruz could win.
---
At a reception before the partys Lincoln Day dinner, Mr. Carson was also asked what he thought of the fighting among Mr. Trumps supporters and protesters in Chicago on Friday night. Though some Republicans are raising questions about whether Mr. Trump can unify the party, Mr. Carson blamed Democratic contender Bernie Sanders for the fracas.
We need to be calling on Bernie Sanders because most of them are his people and tell him you need to get out there right now and you need to tell your people this is wrong and this is not America, he said.
