Reagan used to be a Democrat. Then came Nancy whose father turned him to the "dark side" and the GOP. For that reason I do not care about Nancy's passing one way or the other. She was devoted to a monster and horrible president.
Had Reagan no been president our country would be in a much better place. So many bad policies were launched during the Reagan era. And we are seeing the devastating effects of those policies today. In a way Reagan ultimately beat Trump and others like him.
The country is in serious shape in many ways and there is no way to address our problems. And I see little hope for the future unless there is a wave election favoring Democrats.

Jack Kemp might have been elected in 1984 or 1988. He was portrayed as a bridge-builder when Dole tapped him as his running mate, but he was actually the ultimate conservative.
The Republicans have long been marching our country down a right-wing path. I just hope it doesn't take another great depression to finally bring the Reagan Revolution to an end.

(10,500 posts)I didn't say anything about Nancy Reagan.
I simply commented on Reagan's brand of conservatism and the road I believe it has put our country on.

Dr. Davis is depicted as a talented physician but not at all the Lake Shore Drive aristocrat and pillar of the community that Mrs. Reagan portrayed him as being. Like Edith Davis, whose mother ran cheap boarding houses in Swampoodle, a Washington, D.C., slum, Dr. Davis was from a modest background, the grandson of a railroad locomotive engineer.
Kelley`s book also characterizes him as a bigot who routinely used such terms as ``nigger`` and ``kike,`` and as a member of the right-wing John Birch Society.
The book asserts that young Nancy became devoted to Dr. Davis, ignoring her biological father (who was divorced from her mother) and later unjustly maligning him. Dr. Davis did not wholly return this adoration, the book says, and it took Nancy years of cajoling, begging and manipulating to get him to adopt her legally.

(36,269 posts)Ron & Nancy started keeping only the friends her stepfather approved of, and those tended to be Birchers or the like.
Thanks for posting this. I was planning to post a "too soon to point out ... ?" post about this.
PS: "beat" should be "begat", no ?
