(78,249 posts)One of our twelve residential colleges (dorms with amenities like libraries and theaters) is named for the notorious South Carolina slaveholder and secessionist. Debate is raging over whether to change its name. Its master (!) has already removed art depicting Calhoun's slaves from the common areas.

(63,912 posts)I'm glad they're doing it but I think I read someplace that all of Yale's presidents had been involved in slavery...
Some day, KA, Yale will win The Game...this year it will be at Harvard and I'm glad. It's depressing to be in the Bowl when once again Yale goes down. My ex husband went to Harvard and never got over it...

(63,912 posts)I go past one of the colleges when I take my husband downtown (he serves as the volunteer chair of the Homeless Committee for the City). Is iit Saybrook or Calhoun right on Elm Street?
I like "Saybrugian." Is that a poke at "Cantabridgian," the Cantabs for short?

(78,249 posts)Saybrook on the south side at York, and Calhoun the other one on the north side at the corner of College.
I do not know the origin of "Saybrugian". It sounds to me like an attempt to make a quasi-Latin demonym out of "Saybrook".

(3,212 posts)And that Sasha was cute, but - WOW! - Sasha is going to turn a lot of heads.
Malia looks very much like someone I know who is very beautiful, so I guess I've always been partial to her looks.
I'm glad the girls are getting the opportunity to get all glammed up before they leave, since they've had to put up with a lot to get to this point.

(3,290 posts)to have a story come on tv or read in the paper about them with no worries about what is coming. They are a class act all the way and a superb exemplar of the American family for all the world to see. I wish the family nothing but the very best as they return to regular life.
