Huckabee's OOPs Moment: Without Fox "News", Americans would assume Obama ‘doing a great job’

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R) had an oops moment on his radio show Monday, and this one’s going to leave a mark.

Speaking about America’s media landscape in general, Huckabee suggested that without Fox News acting as a counterweight to “mainstream media,” most Americans “will assume that Obama really is just doing a great job and he just can’t get those crazy Republicans to help him out.”

Huckabee’s guest, former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu (R), who’s now gone to work for the Romney campaign, added that the major news networks defend President Barack Obama from negative economic news, calling the president America’s “whiner in chief.”

“I think a lot of people, if all they do is listen to conservative talk radio and maybe watch Fox News, they assume that all of America is getting what I would call at least a balanced approach to understanding that there are a lot of real problems going on that Obama could do better on,” Huckabee said. “But if people only watch the three big networks and BS-NBC, as I like to call them — MSNBC — if they watch BS-NBC and the three networks, then I think sometimes we may be kidding ourselves because a lot of people will assume that Obama really is just doing a great job and he just can’t get those crazy Republicans to help him out.”

As long as FOX maintains it's current philosophy there is no other influence in American politics that is more damaging to our nation.

Taking back our nation must begin with destroying the credibility and influence of Fox News. I consider the network to be the single biggest threat to our way of life.

As a "damn librul yankee" stuck behind enemy lines in Arkansas, I was told that I need to watch "the REAL news". They honestly believe that Faux is the ONLY one telling them the "truth". Huckabee, the Good Christian, is simply reinforcing this.

and if anyone ever told me Faux was "the REAL news," I would simply counter with all the studies that have been done that show Faux viewers are dumber, on average.

For the record, you're not "behind enemy lines," you are a messenger to the uninformed. Take your residential situation to prove that.

There are many more Left-Leaners in Arkansas than MSM would care to admit. My theory, from my personal encounters alone: Arkansas will go Blue in Nov. if the election is not rigged. A lot of Nixon/Reagan Dems have personally been negatively affected and are VERY angry. And, are voting for President Obama! Including some of my Arkansan, Southern Baptist, bigoted family members! And, yes! I am relentless in the truthiness department. I got a couple to crack!

I can't help but imagine, after reading so many posts about other DUers' family encounters with bagger relatives, that this was the precise mood around the antebellum dinner table.

Courageous times, these.

Solidarity, Everybody!

I only know a few folks from Arkansas, but they are some of the best people I've ever had the pleasure to know. Good, decent and honest folks. I just hate to think they are surrounded by such ignorant, hateful fruitcakes that stain the reputation of that otherwise-great state. I'd LOVE to see Arkansas...and a few other good Southern states go BLUE!! After all, THEY are the ones that will benefit the most from a progressive agenda in this country.

was watch Fox News and listen to hate radio, one would probably believe that President Obama is the Antichrist, or at least a reincarnation of Hitler/Stalin and that America has been transformed into either Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union (or soon will be)- ignoring the total lack of evidence of President Obama's opponents- hate radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Republicans and right-wingers- being persecuted and/or thrown into concentration camps/gulags. If President Obama is a dictator, he's a VERY lousy one- letting all these people run around free to attack and denounce him. Most dictators don't tolerate dissent very well. Of course, for some reason (i.e. Fox News), some people just keep on believing that we're living under some kind of fascist/socialist dictatorship completely ignoring the mountains of evidence that American democracy has not underwent any kind of dramatic shifts in terms of people's daily lives and experiences. Of course, though, where is the fun in acknowledging the obvious reality for most people when you can manufacture paranoid fantasies and delusions to live under?

I suspect if people did not watch ANY media source - but rather relied on their own anecdotal experience of themselves and the majority of people around them - people will assume that Obama really is just doing a great job and he just can’t get those crazy Republicans to help him out.

Yes ... I know there are far too many people out of work, and have been so for far too long; but, personally, just about everyone that I know to have lost their jobs (due to no fault of their own) pre-2010, are back to work.

... I work in HR, and our recruiters are going full bore, as we are losing employees to higher paying competitors.

... The houses in my sub-division that went vacant (pre-2010) are now occupied by owners. There isn't a for sale sign in the entire sub-division.

... My house value saw its first gain in 7 years.

... Shopping Malls are on my places to avoid list, as the are filling up again.

I know this all is anecdotal, and of little comfort to those still suffering; but imagine where we would be if more people, especially people in the media, would SAY - as opposed to ASSUME that (President) Obama really is just doing a great job and he just can’t get those crazy Republicans to help him out.”

the Courts, local, state and federal Repug politicians and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to strip us of our rights, privileges, and money! Fox News has hi-jacked the Repug party and moved it waaaay right to speed up their takeover. They will never stop until they have it all! If we do not rise up and fix the problems with our election system and lobbyist, we are doomed to live in 1984, the book. Another terrorist attack would give them all they need if they are in power when it happens.

With his bible in one hand, and a bag full of blood-money in the other. What honestly worries me the most is how influential the media can be on the average, and more likely, less than average person of rational intelligence.

I know the generalization of certain groups of people is even more divisive, but it really worries me how easily led so many people are.
