http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/johnwright/the_nation_s_most_racist_sexist_homophobic_places_according_to_twitterAdobo.com, a site that helps tenants find apartments, analyzed 12 million tweets from June 2014 to December 2015, looking for slurs and other prejudiced language against Black people, Hispanic/Latino people, women, gays and lesbians, transgender people, people with disabilities, and people of size, whom the study refers to as overweight.
Overall, Louisiana had the highest rate of derogatory tweets among US states 1 per 87 followed by Nevada and Texas. However, West Virginia had by far the highest rate of racist tweets, with 83.2 per 100,000, more than double that of any other state.
Perhaps to avoid singling out one city as the nation's capital of hate, Adobo didn't rank cities according to overall derogatory language. But a look at the site's rankings in individual categories shows that Arlington, Texas, may deserve the dubious honor.

(14,177 posts)The only surprise I got from my home state is that it wasn't even higher on the lists of hateful states.

(80,708 posts)You would think that Oregon- which has even stonger constitutional protections for free speech than the Bill of Rights- would be a hotbed of this activity.
Odd.

(80,708 posts)Although I did see one jackhole with a trump banner on his truck up on mt. hood a few months ago. Driving very badly.
Actually, I think free expression is the solution, not the problem.
What these muddleheaded anti-1st amendment ninnies dont realize is that if they got the level of censorship they're always dreaming of, the first voices to be censored would likely be their own.

That being said...those who "tweet" are not necessarily representative of a state's population.
