Eliot Cohen may not be suggesting bonding, but would there be anything in this companionship?
For over a decade New Dems seemed to be tethered to republicans, chasing them everywhere like a puppy and yelping 'me, too!' as a pragmatic solution to loneliness.
For the most part, republicans didn't think much of this relationship, calling New Dems, in their DLC-phase both idea-less and void of principle. But now it seems that unruliness at the family reunion has left r's looking for companionship. And it seems some are looking at that unwanted shadowing companion as a go to.
It's difficult to look at this and see either well planned strategy or carefully considered tactics. It seems a pretty unexpected emergence of cross-over voting appeal. I mean, really, whose living memory doesn't include, republican men actually biting this dog they now considering petting? The companionship seeking seems mostly based on bridging the current domestic abuse.
Imagine this liason actually gets beyond the dreaming stage and moves toward the responsibilities of partnership. Is there a chance that the R's will actually feed and house and otherwise care for the relationship, or are they going to put it on a chain and teach it to menace anything that comes near it with a sweep of orange hair?
'Centrist' dems seem to think Sanders can't get anything done that doesn't require 60 senators. Is this Clinton's path to 60 senators? And if it is, is this new dog going to teach old republicans new tricks, or will the r's be happy with the way that dog always seemed easy to lead?
