I'm taking my daughter to vote for the first time tomorrow

She's 17, but will be 18 before the general election so she's able to vote in the primary here in Virginia. She's very excited about it and has been talking about it for weeks. I'm very proud of her decision to take part in this process, and I hope it becomes as much a habit for her as it's become for me.

PS - sorry if this should have been posted to GD-P - to me it's a post about her voting for the first time, and the fact that it will be in a primary isn't really relevant.

She's so excited. I remember my first vote,it was for Jimmy Carter in his first presidential campaign and it was very exciting to me.

My first vote was for Jimmy Carter too. I was so proud and happy to vote for him -- still am.

was for Bob Dole in '96.

I was too influenced by all the right-wingers in my family, but straightened out in time to vote for Gore in 2000 and Democrats in every election since.

I didn't push it since they are adults but both requested their ballots and sent them in.

Have fun tomorrow!

have something to do with it. We always voted, and I don't remember wondering if our kids might not. It was just assumed.
